About
Ruben Kingman is a guitarist, composer, and producer whose work traces a vivid arc across Folk-Blues, Jazz-Fusion, and Latin-Americana – then blurs the lines entirely.
His solo compositions are carefully considered guitar-led pieces, rich in melody and movement, where roots and world music meets psychedelic electronica.
As a collaborator, Ruben brings depth and texture to every project. He’s actively one-sixth of Nookee, the identical-twin sister fronted psychedelic soul outfit known for their theatrical live energy and genre-defying sound.
In the band, Ruben weilds his electric-guitar with a scope of effects and sings harmony vocals, helping shape the group’s complex, layered aesthetic both on stage and on record.
Ruben also co-leads The Kingman Project, a subversive musical caper helmed alongside his father, Simon Kingman (Melo Park, Zervas & Pepper, and more). Blending blood-harmony, instincts, and a shared love for the unexpected, the project is a creative dialogue with no fixed boundaries and a taste for the unconventional, The Kingman Project drifts between playing standards and originals, infusing improvision with cinematic journey, steered by intuition, family biorhythm, and a fondness for musical left turns.
Nookee has left their mark on some of the UK’s most beloved festivals, with standout performances at Green Man, Shambala, Kendal Calling and Llais Festival. Their rising profile has also earned them support from BBC Horizons and the Forte Project recognizing them as one of the most exciting emerging acts in the region.
One of Ruben’s earliest recorded ventures – beyond the countless bedroom creations of his pre-adulthood years was with BLACKELVIS, contributing to their debut EP See Love recorded at Woodbine Street Recording Studio.
At the time, he brought a distinct Texas-blues sensibility to their raw, funk-rock sound, leaving an unmistakable imprint on the band's early sonic identity.
In addition to his personal and collaborative projects, Ruben offers a range of professional services. He is available for session work both live and in the studio, bringing his versatile guitar skills and musical sensibility to a wide variety of genres. Whether performing on stage or recording in the studio, Ruben’s approach is always dynamic, intuitive, and rooted in the moment. He also offers the flexibility of remote recording from his home studio, ensuring high-quality results no matter where you’re based.
For those interested in developing their musical abilities, Ruben offers private guitar lessons, both in person and online, focused on helping you develop your own unique style. With an emphasis on creativity, musical expression, and personal growth, his lessons are tailored to suit musicians of all levels.
